Q & A with OBA’s Londyn Baldwin Presented by Dan Snyder Shelter Insurance

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?

Londyn: I started playing volleyball when I was in second grade. We had just moved from Oklahoma to California and my parents encouraged me to try playing a sport to make new friends. Since then, I have played club, middle school, and high school volleyball.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Londyn: OBA has been a huge part of my life since I’ve gone there. My grandma used to teach there and my mom and uncle both graduated from there. I think continuing that legacy is my favorite, and the most important, part of representing my school.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?

Londyn: My favorite volleyball memory is probably going to state my freshman year. I didn’t play, but the atmosphere and energy was incredible. It was an awesome experience that I won’t soon forget.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Londyn: I would say volleyball has taught me how important perseverance is. The game can change in an instant.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

Londyn: I am passionate about volleyball because that’s how I grew up. My parents met playing volleyball so it’s always been part of my life.

VYPE: Who inspires you?

Londyn: I am inspired by my grandmothers. They both are very strong, independent women and I am lucky to have both of them in my life. I look up to their strength and grace through tough situations.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Londyn: My favorite teacher I’ve ever had is probably Mrs. Kroeker. She was my biology teacher my sophomore year. She was always so genuine and she really cares about all of her students. I learned a lot from her. She also comes to every volleyball game, no matter the distance, and it is always super encouraging to see her there.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Londyn: I think the best advice I’ve gotten is “embrace failure as the stepping stone to success.”

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Londyn: I first want to thank my parents for encouraging me through everything. I want to also thank Coach Roth for letting me be on the team year after year despite me not being able to fully play due to surgery rehab. He has always been supportive of me and is always down to let me try new things and test my limits.
