Carson Reyburn is a senior at Watonga High School. See is a quiet young lady that is involved in cheer, track, Student Council and, by the way, is valedictorian with distinction of her senior class. Plus, she works weekends at the restaurant in Roman Nose State Park near Watonga. She is the youngest of six children and admits to being a bit spoiled with three older brother and two older sisters.
Carson got involved with tumbling as a youngster and started cheering as a freshman in high school. The Watonga High Cheer Squad numbers 16 and Carson is one of three girls on the leadership team with Calista Riley and Rita Clewell. The cheer sponsors are Chelsea Kennedy and Taylor Coney. Chelsea talked about Carson being the stunt girl on the squad with her back hand spring (tumbling) and toe touch baskets (stunts). The two sponsors mentioned Carson’s leadership, positive attitude, energy and confidence. One of Carson’s high school highlights is making it to state in Cheer this year. She will also cheer at the K101 Bowl Football Game this year.
Carson is Student Council Vice President. In that role, she is involved with most school activities. She is on the Eagles track team. She pole vaulted 8 feet, 6 inches (personal best vault) in the state track meet last year placing fifth. It is another high school highlight! She also runs the 100 and 200.
Carson plans to attend Oklahoma State University and major in psychology and she wants to go to law school. I asked her why law school and she smiled and replied, “I like to argue!”
I asked Carson what advice she would give a ninth grader entering high school. She thought about it and replied, “Enjoy it! It goes by so fast. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
One of her favorite teachers came up, Mrs. Hilterbran! Her history teacher makes learning fun and she talks with her a lot about things.
Carson will become a Cowgirl in the fall and learn about college life in Stillwater. OSU is fortunate to get a young lady like Carson Reyburn!
