Four-sport student-athlete Jaidon Turney is a sophomore at Watonga High School and a member of the FFA chapter. Turney joined the FFA when she was in middle school and has loved every minute.
“I’ve always enjoyed farm animals, and agricultural activities. I have raised horses, chickens, calves and have helped my grandparents on their farm. It was an easy decision to join FFA,” said Turney.
For Turney, there are many things she enjoys about being in the program, but the involvement in the community stands out for her.
“My favorite thing about FFA is being involved with the community and all of the fun projects we participate in. My chapter and I help the community with cheese festivals, help greet students for school, petting zoos and serve Christmas dinner. I’ve been involved in Agri-Science, land judging, open ceremony contest, state convention, and I am the chapter parliamentarian,” said Turney.
As a member of the softball team, Turney said she loves competing with her teammates.
“I like competing against others. I am a catcher and first baseman. I love throwing a runner out at second and stretching out on first to get the out. I enjoy bonding with teammates as we play ball together. I like making Coach Fuxa proud when all of her hard work and time has not been wasted,” said Turney.
Turney also plays basketball, golf, cross country and participates in track and field. She is involved in several organizations as well including National Honor Society and community theater.
Turney had this advice for anyone wanting to join FFA.
“You will not regret it. You learn about agriculture, while gaining many opportunities to help others. You also develop many long-lasting friendships. Some of my favorite memories are from the times I spent with my friends on FFA trips,” said Turney.
