WAUKOMIS CHIEFS
Coach: RUSTIN DONALDSON
4-6
OFFENSE
In the second year of a new system, the Chiefs of Waukomis High School are expected to be an improved squad from a season ago. Head coach Rustin Donaldson is confident in his players and their gameplan. “We should be much improved up front with a lot of guys returning on both sides of the ball with experience,” said coach Donaldson. Five starters make their way back to offense this season including Bip Altamirano (6-0, 170, Sr.) in the backfield. Known as the toughest player on the field, Altamirano loves to play football. He can run the ball at fullback or hunt running backs at linebacker. The Chiefs will utilize a hybrid Shotgun Wing-T offense but show multiple sets. Their off-balance attack will center around Kino Richards (5-6, 135, Sr.) and Tanner Metcalfe (5-7, 140, Sr.). Both players have the wheels to run away from would-be tacklers. Ethan Brueggemann (5-7, 145, So.) is another weapon out of the backfield that the Chiefs will utilize in many ways. Landyn Coffey (6-2, 275, Sr.) is the player to watch up front. Coffey will need to bring his leadership and experience to the line this season.
DEFENSE
Altamirano will make the move from outside linebacker to middle linebacker this season giving the Chiefs a true run stopper in the middle. Richards and Metcalfe look to start at corner with Brueggemann playing safety. Brueggemann started as a freshman at safety last season giving him a year of experience to lean on at the position. Coffey will go both ways as well playing defensive tackle. Clayton Beckett (5-11, 170, Jr.) fills the void at outside linebacker bringing his quickness and willingness to take on anything coming to his side of the field. Expect the Chiefs to use multiple coverages thanks to the talent they have on defense. They will base in a 2-3, bringing a physical style of play to every contest.
