Waukomis senior Tyler Vanover is an all-around impressive athlete. Tyler is a tight end in football, pitcher in baseball, and he also powerlifts.
He has played both football and baseball since he was five years old. He began playing sports at such a young age because he was following in his family’s footsteps.
“Growing up, all of my family played sports, so it only seemed right to play,” Vanover said.
Baseball, football, and powerlifting have now become his favorite part of school.
“I’m glad I stuck with playing, because sports make high school so much more fun,” he said.
Being involved in multiple sports has allowed Tyler to learn the value of being a part of a team. When asked what his favorite part about being an athlete is, Tyler highlighted the relationships he has made.
“What I enjoy the most about my sports is the brotherhood on the field,” Vanover said. “Being with your friends, side by side, playing to win, takes its own kind of spirit.”
Tyler has grown immensely as an athlete and a person in his many years in sports. He has learned many valuable lessons since he first became involved in athletics, but he shares one that has stood out the most.
“The biggest lesson I have ever learned through athletics is to never give up. Your mindset has more power over your body than people realize,” Vanover said.
Vanover is an intentional leader within all his sports. He strives to always set a good example to those around him.
“I lead my team with positive energy, and drive,” he said. “You must show your teammates that you must always give your best no matter how big or small.”
“To somebody wanting to play either sport,” Tyler advises, “I would tell them to keep your mind right, don’t give up, consistency is key.”
