Fairview Cheer – Team Spotlight – Presented By Fairview Body Shop

By Ember McElrath

The Fairview High School cheer team is ready to put in work for another great year of high school cheerleading. Expecting, “hard work and good attitude,” each and every day from her athletes, coach Kaci Edwards is excited to see what this year brings.

With just eleven squad members the team may be small, but they have a big bond because they work at it. This year the coaching staff as well as the squad members are most looking forward to, “bonding as a team,” and of course those adrenaline packed game nights.

Four of the eleven squad members are returning seniors, which is great for leadership. Coach Kaci believes her team and athletes are successful due to the girls’ “leadership and teamwork.” The cheer squad also had four team captains, senior Sophie Thorp-Funk, senior Emma Hurst, senior Krista Pedergraft, and Trinity White who is also a senior.

This year Fairview cheer is tossing around the idea of possibly entering into a competition. And what better way to show off their cheer team’s elite crowd leading skills than in the Gameday competition.

Being on the Fairview cheer team’s coaching staff for the past ten years now, Kaci Edwards knows exactly what it takes to have a cohesive and sharp looking team; practice, practice, practice.

Not only do coaches Kaci Edwards and Nicole Martens plan to have a team that leads the crowd in cheering on the football and basketball teams, a team that jumps high, and yells even louder than they jump; but they also have another goal in mind that is maybe even more important than perfectly pointed toes in their toe touch jumps. The coaches want to grow and lead these young ladies into becoming good and respectable women as well as awesome athletes.
