Alva’s Jordan Lohmann – athlete spotlight presented by northwest technology center

By Derrick Smith

Jordan Lohmann is a student at Northwest Technology Center where he is taking the BioMed program. He says that he decided to go to Northwest Tech because he heard about it from other students, and it is a decision he is glad he made.

“I heard about the Tech program from the older students at the high school,” he stated. “Then we ended up doing sophomore tours last year which really caught my attention. Another reason I wanted to join this class is because of the freedom and opportunities they give you. Now, as a student, they are definitely getting us ready for our future by the way they teach us and treat us. They treat us as if we are adults and teach us the same way. This is much better than having any other teachers acting like a parent and handing us everything.”

Lohmann attends the Alva Campus and says while he enjoys the program he is in, there is a bonus to attending.

“One major reason for this class was because of the number of credits it gives you for science,” he said. “If there is an underclassman that is not sure if they want to attend or not, I would tell them that I really would consider taking this class because of the environment, considering all the very, very friendly teachers and any other students and adults out there.”

Along with attending Northwest Tech, Lohmann is a junior at Alva High School. He is involved with a lot of things around campus including playing football, basketball, baseball, and golf for the Goldbugs. He is also a member of the Key Club and his church’s youth group on Wednesday nights.

Throughout his life Jordan says that he has had a couple of people that have had a really large impact on his life.

“My biggest role models are my grandmother and my dad,” he said. “They are always pushing me to do my best with everything I do. They are also very supportive and will do whatever they can do to help out.”
