Hooker’s Morgan Maloney – Oklahoma FFA spotlight presented by farm credit western oklahoma

When Morgan Maloney of Hooker High School first started her journey into FFA she was only in the eighth grade, but she was showing animals by the age of 10. It was her parents who encouraged her to join the FFA once she reached middle school.

“Both my parents showed animals when they were growing up as well as my extended family. We have always been a part of the Ag industry and I wanted to keep that in the family,” said Maloney.

Showing two types of animals can keep her busy, but there are other aspects of FFA that Maloney enjoys.

“I love meeting new people from all around the state and the responsibility that comes with being involved in FFA. Showing is a whole different avenue of responsibility, but I am also a chapter officer so that is another big responsibility,” said Maloney. “I am on the showing team and serving as the vice president for our chapter. We hold a bunch of fundraisers and community service, so I am also involved in that.”

Her livestock of choice are goats and cattle. The senior is comfortable in the ring and doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty. Maloney also plays sports for Hooker High School.

“I am involved in FFA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, STUCO, basketball, softball, cross country, and golf,” Maloney said.

Her advice to other students who may want to join FFA?

“Do it! Be a part of FFA. It is a great organization that lets you meet new people and get out of your shell. There are many different aspects than just showing. Public speaking, judging, mechanics, and horticulture are just a few of the other opportunities in FFA,” said Maloney.

After graduation Maloney plans to attend Oklahoma State University and major in Agribusiness.
