Mya Dewberry is a student at Kingfisher High School. She competes in multiple sports including softball, basketball, and soccer. She enjoys anytime that she is able to step on the field or court, but for Mya, there is one opponent that she enjoys going up against and beating the most.
“Anytime we are able to beat Laverne, it is good,” she said. “I would consider them our rival. My favorite memory of my sports career so far is when we beat Laverne in softball during my sophomore year. The atmosphere was really intense and we all needed that win that day.”
Dewberry, who is entering her senior year, knows that in order to be successful in her sports, there has to be an investment of work and time.
“Being the best I can be when I step on the field requires a lot,” she said. “Putting in the time and always making sure to not only show up but to show up and be ready to work. Also, my teammates really push me to be better and they make it fun along with making it competitive. Out of all of my teammates, I would say that the one I battle with the most is Addison Wilson. She is a great competitor and she is always pushing me to do better. Taylor Mills is another teammate that I enjoy competing with. She works her tail off in the outfield and does not always get the recognition she deserves.”
While her teammates help keep her on track and working hard, Mya also has a couple of other athletes that she looks up to as role models.
“I really like Jana Johns,” she said. “She plays third base for the University of Oklahoma softball team. She has great energy along with everyone else on that team. Also, I enjoy following Megan Rapinoe on social media. She is hilarious and she is my favorite soccer player.”
Along with athletics, Mya is also a member of the National Honor Society and the student council.
