OFFENSE
The Chisholm Longhorns enter the 2022 football season with a new head coach in Kimes Gilbert. And while coach Gilbert wants his team to win, he also wants to change the atmosphere around the program. “I’m very excited about my first year as head coach at Chisholm,” Gilbert said. “The boys have been working extremely hard. In the first meeting I had with the team, we talked about what our standard is at Chisholm. For us, the best is the standard. We want our players to give their best in all areas of life, not just on the football field.” Jackson Caddell (5-11, 170, Jr.) and Gunnar Holder (5-9, 165, So.) will both have opportunities to play at quarterback this season. They are both solid athletes that know the game of football well. No matter who is at quarterback, Lucas Easter (6-2, 215, Sr.) will anchor the offensive line at guard. Running back Braden Flanagan (6-0, 170, Jr.) will work to help establish a ground game for the Longhorns and work to find the endzone as much as possible. Two targets that will open up the passing game will be wide receiver Nick Barker (6-3, 175, Jr.) and tight end Easton John (6-1, 190, So.).
DEFENSE
The Longhorn defense will have their work cut out for them this season. Last year, they gave up an average of forty-three points per game to their opponents and they will have to shrink that number in order to have success. Things will start on the defensive line where Cooper Ridgeway (5-10, 260, Sr.) and Cooper Brinkley (6-3, 210, Jr.) will work to disrupt the opponent’s plans and slow down the running game, while also trying to get to the quarterback. Easter and Caddell will take care of things at the linebacker position. Patrolling the secondary will be Nolan Deterding (5-11, 170, Jr.) and Stephen Busa (5-10, 160, Jr.). Assistant coaches this season will be Beaux Biggers, Mike Fields, and Shane Soudek.
