Chisholm senior Haley Gritz is making a difference every day at Chisholm High School. She has grown up in the Chisholm School District since second grade. She is the girls’ softball and girls’ basketball manager since her freshman year. She also is manager of track. During her freshman softball season, Haley suffered an ankle injury and developed nerve damage that does not allow her to play the game she loves. She called it a “crazy experience.” She made the decision to stop playing and shyly asked Coach Burns to be softball manager. Coach Burns talked about Haley being very dependable and has everything figured out and set up before practice or a game begins. She is invaluable to the team.
Gritz likes school and likes science and English, not so much math. She is involved with Student Council at Chisholm.
Haley is also involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at Chisholm. She was treasurer last year and will hold an office this year. The FCA huddle meets every Monday for lunch in a classroom and a devotional or sometimes a speaker. FCA had a special week for teachers last year that Haley really liked. It means a lot to her to be around Christian friends at school.
I asked about fun things Haley did. She smiled and talked about helping one of her two older brothers with his stock car and racing on a dirt track. She smiled a second time mentioning the trips to IHOP after racing.
Gritz wants to go to Mid-America Christian University and be the basketball manager. She wants to become an athletic trainer and pursue a position as a physician assistant.
I asked Haley what advice she might give a seventh grader. She was quick to reply, “Follow your dreams! Don’t give up, things may change but God will make it clear. It will be your story to tell some day!”
Look for Haley to continue to make a difference every day at Chisholm High School. She is a young lady that has a p . Here’s to a great senior year!
