OFFENSE
Having spent his first two seasons at Hennessey starting more than their share of underclassmen, head coach Paul Hix is excited to see that strategy pay off in 2021. “This season will feature the most complete team since I’ve been at Hennessey,” said Hix. “Playing lots of young kids in the first two years should start to pay dividends for us in 2021.” With eight returning starters the offense is shaping up nicely as Keigen Crites (5-9, 225, Sr.) returns to play running back. Crites will play a big role in the spread offense the Eagles will use this season. “We blend an old school, physical, gap scheme run game with some air-raid principals and RPOs,” said Hix. Sebastian Gonzalez took over as starting quarterback in week three and continued to improve as the season wore on. Gonzalez has a strong arm and a physical run game. Antonio Robles is a two-year starter at center giving the Eagles someone up front who understands what the defense is doing pre-snap.
DEFENSE
Seven starters are back on defense including Crites who will start at linebacker. Also look for Adan Valdez (6-3, 185) to be one of the leaders on the defensive side of the ball. Kason Copeland is a physical player who will go both ways for the Eagles at defensive end and tight end. “We are an extremely aggressive, attacking style defense that bases out of the 4-2-5 and odd stack,” said Hix.
