OFFENSE

In 2021 the Hooker Bulldogs  made the second round of the  Class A playoffs. “We will have  a much different look after replacing a strong senior class,” coach Trevor Powers said. “But as always, we will be looking at contending for a district championship and securing a home playoff game.” Kleat Martens (5-10, 165, So.) will be assuming a new role this year at quarterback. Last year as a freshman Martens managed over 750 yards of total offense at wide receiver and running back. Described by coaches as a freak athlete, he’ll bring dual-threat capabilities to the quarterback  position. Expect him to turn  heads this fall. The Bulldogs have been a pass-first team in recent years, but as Martens gets more comfortable with his new role, expect the team to lean more on the running game to start out the year.  Leniel Heredia (6-1, 240,  Sr.), Rhett Nunley (6-4, 310, So.), and Adrian Mendoza (6-2, 295, Sr.) will definitely be a big boost on the offensive line and allow the Bulldogs to get their running game going. Braxton Burge (6- 1, 170, Jr.) had over 750 yards receiving last year, and Jackson Arnold (6-2, 180, Sr.) returns for his senior season providing a tall target in the red zone.

DEFENSE

On the defensive side, expect the Bulldogs to bring a 4-2-5 scheme, with an intent to play fast and get to the ball. Lawson Lynch (5-9, 175, Sr.) is a four-year starter, has been named All District three times, and has over 200 career tackles at linebacker. Last season he broke his leg in the opening  game but returned from injury  for the final three weeks and  recorded 45 tackles and rushed for over 100 yards on limited carries. Expect big numbers from Lynch with a healthy senior season ahead.  Fabian Castaneda (5-10, 185, Sr.) had 85 tackles at linebacker and Payton Parker (6- 1, 235, So.) was All District as a freshman. Parker had 90 tackles last season and looks to improve this year after working out hard in the offseason. Jaxon Paker (6-2, 230, Sr.), a defensive tackle,  had 65 tackles as a junior and  Blane Paden (6-2, 180, Sr.) will  play at linebacker and tight end.
