QUICK HITS:
Kingfisher and Chisholm meet for the 9th time on September 9th. The first meeting in the series was in 1980. The Yellowjackets have won all 8 previous meetings. Kingfisher has lost eight straight meetings to Weatherford. The Yellowjackets will be looking for their first win in the series since 1985 when the play on September 2nd.
OFFENSE
The Yellowjackets under head coach Jeff Myers will return six starters on the offense including VYPE Top 100 nominee Jax Sternberger (6-2, 180, Sr.). Sternberger is a three-year starter bringing his athleticism and strong arm back to the offense. Stern- berger has several weapons on the offense including Harrison Evans (6-3, 210, Sr.) at half-back. Evans is a powerful runner who can punish would-be tacklers. Cade Cooper (5-10, 180, Sr.) is another running back Kingfisher will lean on this season. Cooper adds some speed and agility to the back- field. The offensive line is solid with Wrigley Kennedy (6-2, 245, Sr.), Noah Friesen (5- 10, 240, Sr.) and Kale Westfahl (6-0, 190, Sr.). All three players are strong offensive line- men. Kennedy is a three-year starter and one of the hardest workers on the team.
DEFENSE
The Yellowjackets defense returns eight starters this season including Dallen Barton (5-10, 130, Jr.) at corner. Barton has the speed to keep up with the quickest receivers in the district. Sternberger will play free safety giving the team someone who spot the deep ball and record those important pass breakups. Evans is slated to play defensive end where his length and quickness will allow him to pressure opposing quarterbacks and set the edge in the run game. Jake Reagan (6-1, 200, Jr.) will play opposite Evans at end. Reagan has a similar style and can pressure the opposing backfield disrupting the flow of the opposing offense. Coach Myers wants his team to play a physical brand of football. “We want a tough, physical team that flies all over the field and gets to the ball,” said Myers.
