OFFENSE
The Bearcats return to the field with a lot of confidence. After a deep playoff run, and almost every single starter returning from last year, head coach Frank Howard and his team have a goal to win a state championship. Highlighting the Bearcats offense is Conner Scarborough (5-11, 180, Sr.). At running back, Scarborough rushed for over 1,000 yards and added four touchdowns in 2020. The Mooreland coaching staff expects big things from Scarborough. Quarterback Carter Sampson (5-10, 190, Jr.) surprised some people last season, and is expected to play lights out this season. Ridge Purviance (5-10, 150, Jr.) also brings back some experience at running back for the Bearcats and looks to add to his 406 yards and two touchdowns he produced last season. The offensive line has some experience returning as well, and Braeden Luckie (6-0, 210, Jr.) will look to separate himself as a legitimate threat for opposing teams on the line. Look for the Bearcats to run a flexbone formation, running the ball and being very physical.
DEFENSE
Some of Mooreland’s best defenders return to the field in the upcoming season. At linebackers, Wade Lively (5-10, 190, Sr.) and Evan Sampson (6-0, 195, So.) return after recording over 150 tackles a season ago, and Sampson added an interception. Defensive back Stetson Roper (5-10, 150, So.) had an unreal freshman season, recording 30 tackles and four touchdowns. Expect Roper to be a player that matches up with opposing team’s best player every week. On the line, Jason Schnoebelen (5-11, 190, Jr.) might look undersized, but brings his best every snap. In 2020, he had 61 tackles, four sacks, and even had an interception. Look for the Bearcats to be very aggressive on defense and give opposing teams multiple looks.
