OFFENSE
First year head coach Jake Allen leads the Mooreland Bearcats and his triple option attack into the new year with seven starters returning on offense. Quarterback Carter Sampson (5- 9, 190, Sr.) will be the offensive leader under center and has started in various positions on both sides of the ball since his freshman year. “He understands our offense and his role,” Allen said. “He has powerful legs and knows how to make big plays.” Stetson Roper (5-7, 155, Jr.) and Ridge Purviance (5-9, 165, Sr.) will split duties in the backfield. Purviance has overcome two ACL injuries and is excited to have a healthy and productive senior season. Jason Schoebelen (5-11, 210, Sr.) and Xavin Hickman (6-1, 200, Jr.) will be relied upon to set the tone for the Bearcats in the trenches and Austin Owens (6-2, 200, Sr.) provides versatility from the tight end.
DEFENSE
The Bearcats will bring a 4-2 base defense with a variety of coverage personnel packages and schemes. Sampson, similar to his role on offense, is a defensive leader from the safety position on defense and is joined by fellow two-way starter Purviance in the secondary. Evan Sampson (6-1, 240, Jr.) and Schnoebelen will be a dynamic force from the middle of the defensive line and Owens will look to utilize his speed rushing off the edge. Kaden Overton (6-1, 185, So.) stepped up as a freshman linebacker and ended up leading the Bearcats in tackles last season. The Bearcat coaching staff has big expectations for him after a great offseason in the weight room.
