OFFENSE
Entering the 2021 season, head coach Reese Brickman is aware of the expectations being placed on his team. He is encouraged by what he has seen from this group in spring ball. “We are excited to take a step forward this season,” said Brickman. “Despite finishing third in district B-2 and making the playoffs last season, we know the expectations around here are far higher than finishing 4-7. I think our kids are committed to getting better, and we are hungry for more success this year.” Sam Halverson (6-2, 275, Sr.) is a four-year starter at center. Halverson is a lead-by-example type of player. He is joined on the line by Kyle Lewis (5-8, 225, So.) who started at both guard and center. Lewis is another leader and someone who works hard at his craft. William Karbs (5-9, 185, So.) had 183 carries for 976 yards with 14 touchdowns as a freshman. Brody Jinkens (5-11, 150, So.) will start at quarterback where he had some success last season. Running back Kale Shaloy (6-0, 160, Jr.) adds depth and a change of pace to the run game. Also look for Carson Osterhout (6-0, 175, Jr.) at tight end. Osterhout can play on the line or work in the passing game.
DEFENSE
The Whippets return five starters to the defensive side of the ball. Most guys will go both ways. Karbs will return to linebacker where he made 110 tackles and two sacks with one interception. Jinkens will play free safety where he accounted for 44 tackles and one pick. Oserhout will join Karbs at linebacker where his 41 tackles and two sacks are crucial for the defense. Shaloy and Kyle Moore (5-10, 150, Jr.) will play corner. Expect this defense to play a physical style with zone coverage in the secondary.
