Competition is everywhere. No matter who you are, where you are from, or if you like competition or not, you will face it. For Cody Conaway, competition is motivation.
Cody Conaway is a junior at Ringwood High School where he is at the top of his class academically with a 4.0 GPA. To say he is involved would be an understatement. He is class president and is also a part of organizations such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), National Honor Society (NHS), and BETA. Along with all of this, he is a part of his high school’s football, basketball, baseball, and track teams.
Track is where Cody has found the most success. “I like track because it is an individual-based competition in which the goal is simple, throw farther than your opponent,” said Cody. Cody lives for competition and it is his main motivator. “Be better than the person across from me,” said Cody about his biggest motivation.
Being so motivated makes dedication come easy. Cody not only dedicates himself to sports and school, but he also dedicates himself to church. He is very proud and passionate about his faith. “I am a Christian who was raised in a Christian household. Last summer we went on a missions trip to Guatemala and we saw over a thousand people accept Jesus into their lives,” said Cody.
Family is also a big part of Cody’s life. “My parents and older siblings are my role models. Together, they have taught me how to be competitive, caring, and humble,” said Cody. He has two brothers, Jonathan and Josiah, and a sister, Kelsey. He is very thankful to be a part of a very loving and supportive family and he feels it helps him be his best self.
In the future, Cody plans on pursuing a career as a civil or nuclear engineer at Oklahoma State University. It is a tough field to pursue a career in, but Cody is ready for the challenge and plans to use everything sports has taught him to help him succeed in life.
