OFFENSE
The Shattuck Indians are coming off of a solid season, going 11-2 and making it to the Class B semifinals. While last season was good, head coach Craig Hixon says that this year’s squad has a lot of potential. “We are an experienced team with multiple threats,” he said. “We are also backed up by a solid offensive line.” Leading the Indian offense will be quarterback Caden Laverty (5-8, 180, Sr.). The guys that do the dirty work in the trenches and keep Laverty protected will be Jesus Hernandez (6-0, 240, Sr.) and Christian Jones (6-3, 220, Sr.). Playmakers that will be looking to make an impact on the offense this season will be running back Jesse Gibson (5-7, 170, Sr.) and wide receivers Jaylon Cummings (6-0, 185, Sr.) and Ros Latta (6-2, 180, Jr.).
DEFENSE
On the defensive side of the ball, Shattuck returns six starters from last year’s squad. Laverty, Latta, and Cummings will all three be taking care of things in the backfield. They will be working to shut down big plays from the opposing offense. One the defensive line, Hernandez and Jones have both put in a lot of work in the offseason and are ready to wreak havoc and disrupt their opponents. Gibson will line up at linebacker and will keep an eye on the middle of the field and work to keep the opponents’ success to a minimum. The experience that the Indians bring back on both sides of the ball make them a contender for a deep postseason run. Hixon’s assistant coaches this season will be Tyson Bullard, Troy Bullard, Drew Miller, and Travis Oakley.
