Texhoma Red Devils Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

BOYS

Coach: Greg Higgins

21-22 Record: 20-7

After a run to the area tournament last season, the Red Devils enter this season with bigger plans and a deeper playoff run. Greg Higgins is in his 24th season at the helm of the Texhoma boys basketball program and he knows that this team has a lot of potential. “We have high expectations for this team,” Higgins said. “We lost one starter and have everybody else back for another strong run. Joe Hernandez will be the center of attention with his post presence along with his younger brother Jerry Hernandez.” Joe Hernandez (6-3, Sr.) was first in scoring with 386 points last season, an average of 14.3 points per game. He is tough to handle inside and sees lots of double teams to stop him. Joe has great enthusiasm for the game and that spills over to his teammates. He was selected as the Mooreland tournament MVP, Panhandle All-Conference, and OBCA All-District Team. Another player that will look to make an impact this season is Jose Garay (5-8, So.).

Jose always plays hard and works hard to make himself a better player. Jose is one that spends lots of time in the gym and he was selected for the Panhandle All-Conference. Joe’s younger brother, Jerry Hernandez (6-4, Jr.) led the team in three-point percentage and free throw percentage last season. He scored 23 points in the regional championship game and was selected as Mooreland All-Tournament and Panhandle All Conference. Crosby Cartwright (6-2, So.) is very athletic and getting better each game. He will continue to work hard in the gym to improve his shooting and also gain that competitive defensive pride in shutting a player down with his athletic ability. Johnny Martinez (5-10, Sr.), Derek Kennan (5-11, Sr.), Grayson McGlasson (6-1, Jr.), Raul Reza (6-1, Sr.), Diego Hernandez (6-1, Jr.), Aiden Winters (6-3, So.), and Niko Sibille (6- 0, Sr.). Assistant coaches this season are Cash Overton and Brady Mitchell.
