OFFENSE
Justin Hannah and the Turpin Cardinals return seven starters to their spread offensive attack. In 2021, the Cardinals averaged 330 yards a game with the majority of that coming through the air, and fans can expect more of the same this season. Quarterback Bryson Parker (5-11, 145, Jr.) threw for over 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns last year with a 65 percent completion average. Wide receivers Kaden Moses (6-1, 180, Sr.) and Eddy Aguilar (6-0, 180, Sr.) will be Parker’s two main targets this year. Last season Moses had over 500 yards and five scored while Aguilar had 245 and two touchdowns. Drew Batt (6-9, 275, Sr.) returns as a four-year starter at center and Mario Hernandez (5-11, 215, Sr.) will compete at guard. All District running back Aaron Resendiz (5- 10, 175 Sr.) had 1,300 total yards of offense and 12 touchdowns in 2021. The Cardinals expect him to have another very productive season.
DEFENSE
The Cardinals run a standard 3-2 base defense and return seven starters from last year’s squad. Resendiz, a leader on both offense and defense, had 77 tackles and led the Cardinals with three interceptions. Ryan Hammock (5-10, 235, Jr.) lines up at nose guard looking to clog running lanes and had 51 total tackles last season. Both defensive ends, Jaxson Hensley (6-2, 185, Sr.) and John Epp (6-4, 190, Sr.), bring quickness and length from the edge and together combined for over 100 tackles while shrinking the field in 2021. Bailey Boyd (6-0, 175, Sr.) was an All-District player last season after accumulating 108 total tackles, 52 of which were solo, and returns for a senior season with even bigger expectations. Braden Ratzlaff (5-9, 130, Jr.) returns to start at cornerback.
