Head Coach: Colby Nelson
The Lady Indians enter the 2022 season ready to surprise some people. After ending last season with a 15-15 record, head coach Coby Nelson has high expectations for his squad and thinks they have what it takes to make a run in the postseason.
“We will be bringing eight starters back for this season,” he said. “This should give us an advantage over some of the competition. If the girls work hard and continue to improve, we should move up the rankings and have a shot to compete for an opportunity to go to state.”
Senior Jill Parry will be back in the circle for Vici. She is the team’s leader on offense and defense and her experience has helped her grow a high softball IQ. Last season, she had a .349 average at the plate with nineteen RBIs. Another senior leader on the team is Cayce McCracken, who ended last season with a .249 batting average and eleven RBIs. She is the leader in the clubhouse and on the field. She has the charisma of a born leader that other players want to be around. She is a talented outfielder and has power at the plate.
Molly McGehee came out as a freshman and finished last season hitting square in the middle of the lineup. She will play catcher and short this year and is poised to drive in a lot of runs. She will look to continue her production from last season when she had a .379 batting average and hit twenty-four runs in.
While she is an underclassman, sophomore Cadie McCracken is one of the best athletes on the team and will hit near the top of the lineup. At the plate, she registered a .278 average with twenty RBIs. She will play shortstop, catcher, and pitcher and looks to have a breakout season.
A quartet of juniors are ready to take a bigger role on the team. Kloe Nelson had a .287 average and sixteen runs batted in, while Jazmein Rivas accumulated six RBIs with a .175 batting average. Chelsea Hughen contributed a .148 average and hit in three runs and Leah Baker is ready to make an impact this year.
Coming off of a solid first year on the varsity team, the Lady Indians have two sophomores that are ready to hit the field and be big contributors this season. Kaydence Gray had a .275 average at the plate while also bringing in nine runs. Zoey Jennings will be another key player after having a .203 avearge and eighteen RBIs.
Other players that are expected to play a role this season are Zadyn Johnson, Lily Baker, Avery Fell, Miah Moore, Mia Cole, Bryonna Lund, and Hannah Nance.
