9 Qs With Woodward’s Dathan Custar – Presented By Stock Exchange Bank

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?
Dathan: I am passionate about my sport because every day, when I run, is a time to forget about everything else going on in my life. I find it to be very relaxing.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?
Dathan: Nick Symmonds. I look up to him because even though he is now retired he still shows passion for the sport and encourages young people to join the sport of running.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
Dathan: I would choose to go on a cruise with my family. I would take them because of how much time they have put into supporting me at my meets.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Dathan: The best advice anyone has given me is “Don’t die and you will be alright”.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?
Dathan: There are two teammates that have impacted me. Bo Patten and Kash Rose. Their support over the last season has been unmatched and helped ease the nerves at state.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Dathan: I would like to thank my mom Kari custar, my dad Jamie custar, my sister Brynn Custar, friends Kash Rose and Bo Patten along with all of my coaches.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use daily?
Dathan: To be able to succeed in a race you have to give it your all even when you think you can’t. This has taught me that if you work through the tough days good will come.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?
Dathan: The trips we stayed the night for have definitely been my favorites. Being able to have fun with your friends the night before helps to calm the nerves.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?
Dathan: Mrs. Graff was my eight grade science teacher. She made sure every lesson she taught was fun.
