Goodwell Eagles Boys Basketball – Presented by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

BOYS

Coach: Shawn Strain

21-22 Record: 24-5

The Eagles had an outstanding season a year ago, finishing with a 24-5 mark. But they fell short of their goal of winning the state championship, falling in the area tournament. Head coach Shawn Strain has a positive outlook and thinks his guys have a shot at a really great season. “Experience will be our strength,” coach Strain said. “We return the top seven players from last season. I love how hard these guys play, and their competitive drive to achieve greatness. Last season we lost in the area consolation finals to Leedey. We anticipate having an outstanding season, as we will be very deep and athletic. We will play full court man to man, with some run and jump. This team has several guys who are capable of shooting the three pointers at a high level.” The Eagles will be led by a pair of seniors this season, Ben Schreiner (6-5, Sr.) and Abel Espino (5-9, Sr.).

Ben has a knack for getting rebounds, as well as the ability to score from 15 feet in. Abel plays hard and his competitive spirit rubs off on his teammates. He was the team’s leading scorer at 14 points a game last season. These two will look to set the tone for the rest of the team. Mason Taylor (6-1, So.) is a big athletic guard who can really shoot the three. He plays hard on both ends of the court. A hard worker and a coachable athlete, Victor Ramirez (5-10, Sr.) does the little things that helps the team. Jayden Herald (5-10, Sr.) excels on the defensive end of the court. He is a lockdown defender who takes pride in playing on that end. A total team player. Other players to watch for this season are Christian Gaucin (5-8, Sr.), Aidan Gonzales (6-1, Sr.), and Rilee Slover (6-2, Sr.). Assistant coach this season is Tony Taylor.
