Hooker Bulldog basketball preview – presented by First National Bank of Hooker

BOYS

Coach: Todd Kerr

20-21 Record: 22-3

The Hooker Bulldogs are poised for another outstanding season under head coach Todd Kerr. Several key players are back, and coach Kerr feels this team is capable is doing something special this season. “We will have good size and a good inside presence. We have several guards that are very capable and have a high ceiling,” said Kerr. “We hope to develop into a team that will make a run at another state tournament.” Zach Hidalgo (6-8, Sr.) is that good size coach Kerr referred to. The big man averaged 11.2 points with 8.0 rebounds last season. Gavynn Parker (6-5, Sr.) is another big forward the Bulldogs will have to compliment Hidalgo inside. Parker grabbed 4.7 rebounds a game and added 2.8 points. At guard look for Hudsen Hill (5-9, Sr.) and Nate Metcalf (6-0, Sr.). Both are athletic players with the ability to push the action. Omar Gomez (5-9, So.) is a young player who did see the court as a freshman. Seth Pritchard (5-7, Sr.) did not play last year, but is expected to be another piece of the puzzle for Hooker this season. Jaxson Parker (6-1, Jr.) is exciting to watch and will add depth at the forward position. Other players to watch include Braxton Burge (5-11, So.) at guard, Kaysen Stevens (5-8, Jr.) at guard, Kleat Martens (5-7, Fr.) at guard, Elijah Gribble (5-8, So.) at guard, Trace Duncan (5-8, Fr.) at guard and Nate Hidalgo (6-4, Fr.) at forward.

GIRLS

Coach: Brian Stalder

20-21 Record: 21-4

With all of his players returning from a 21-win team a year ago, head coach Brian Stalder is excited to see what this group can accomplish this season. “We return our entire varsity roster from last year’s state tourney team,” said Stalder. “I love how hard our team plays and that these girls are coachable. If we stay hungry and keep working to get better each day, we will have a good year.” Hollie Stalder (5-9, Sr.) averaged 15 points with 5.0 rebounds a game last year from her guard spot. Stalder is a gym rat and a tenacious competitor. Mady Swayze (5-11, Jr.) is another double-digit scorer averaging 10 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. She is very athletic and continues to improve at her forward position. Janet Cervantes (5-7, Sr.) is a great team player. Last year she averaged 7.0 points and 6.0 rebounds a game. Morgan Maloney (5-9, Sr.) had a great summer after averaging 6.0 points with 4.0 rebounds as a junior. Alondra Ortiz (5-3, Sr.) is a pure hustle player and a good shooter. Allison Ugrate (5-6, Jr.) can average 5.0 points a game and grab 2.6 rebounds along with Heidi Rodriguez (5-5, Jr.) who carries an average of 4.0 points and 3.5 rebounds. Also look for Savannah Fischer (5-9, Jr.) at forward, Gracie Hussel (5-6, Sr.) at guard and Izabella Neville (5-7, Fr.) at guard.
