Most everyone has had a role model that they look up to and try to model themselves after. But along with the positive role models, there are times when we come across negative role models. While we can choose to ignore and not listen to them, they are still there. Morgan Swank says that she became who she is today because of the negative role models she had.
“Growing up I did not have anyone that I looked up to,” she said. “Instead, I had people that I never wanted to be like. My whole life I have worked hard to ensure that I do better than those around me. One of the people that I hold true and dear to my heart is my papa.”
Swank is a senior at Hooker High School. She is a member of numerous clubs around campus, including the cheer team, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the student council, and the National Honor Society, and she serves as president of the Hooker FFA Chapter. She says that she enjoys being a part of her school and community.
“I enjoy being able to make an impact at my school,” she said. “Whether it be just helping someone by picking up their books or being a good listener to someone who has just had a rough day. I also enjoy the people in my community. They are kind-hearted and even though our town is not perfect, without a doubt they will show up when you need them the most.”
When she is not in school, Morgan is usually working or visiting family.
“I spend most of my time working so that I can provide for myself on a daily basis,” she said. “When I do have a spare moment or two, I enjoy playing with my dog, Skyy, as well as going to see my brothers as often as I can since they no longer live with me. Another thing that I enjoy doing that many people would not agree on is going around picking up trash with friends or helping wherever I can. I also personally enjoy riding four-wheelers, fishing, and going to the weight room.”
