The first opportunity students have to join FFA is in the eighth grade. Many students like Hooker High School’s Sydney Hill jump on the opportunity. Having experienced some of the events growing up, Hill knew FFA was a group she wanted to be part of while in high school.
“I got involved in FFA my eighth grade year. My brother encouraged me to join and show with him. I showed sheep with him freshman year,” said Hill.
Now a sophomore, Hill splits time between FFA and her responsibilities there and with the softball team, which is a sport she loves to play.
“The thing I love the most about our softball program is our coaches. What I love the most about my team and teammates is how we encourage each other during a tough game,” said Hill.
The sophomore said anyone interested in FFA should give it a try. Hill shares the advice she received from her brother before she became a member of the Hooker chapter.
“I would give the same advice my brother gave me. He told me to join and do all the activities that sounded fun and if I didn’t like it I would not have to do it the next year, so my eighth grade year I did all the things that sounded fun and singed up the following year,” said Hill.
Obviously, her brother has been a big influence in her life. Other family members have as well.
“A big influence in my life has been my dad. He’s been there to support me whether it was a softball game or a trap shoot, he has pushed me to keep going and improve every day,” said Hill.
Once she has completed her high school journey, Hill plans to attend college and pursue a degree.
“After I graduate I would like to attend college and earn a business degree,” Hill said.
