Laverne’s Tayte Dome – Athlete Spotlight Presented by The Stock Exchange Bank

Laverne High School senior Tayte Dome is a multisport athlete playing baseball, basketball, and football for the Laverne Tigers. In baseball, Tayte plays as a right-hand pitcher and shortstop, in basketball Tayte plays center, and in football Tayte plays tight end and linebacker. Tayte has played at least one sport for almost his entire life, playing baseball for 15 years thus far, playing basketball for 14 years thus far, and football for 9 years.

Sports accolades and awards include being 2-time Class B State Champions, and District B-1 MVP.

In order to have become successful at sports, Tayte stated, “It has taken hard work and dedication.”

It is clear that Tayte is proud to represent his school and his community every time he puts on his uniform. Tayte explained, “Our school and community have always been very supportive of all our sports. With a community like this, it makes you want to make them proud.”

In regards to what motivates Tayte, he stated, “The thrill of competing.”

When it comes to a role model for his life, Tayte looks towards family. “My dad is my biggest role model. He has supported my desires to play sports, and taught me to excel in each one.”

Many memories are made in high school athletics, and for Tayte, one particular memory stands out. Tayte recalled, “My favorite memory in sports was playing in the state baseball tournament last year.”

In terms of someone at school that has impacted Tayte the most, he looks towards a coach that has made a difference.  Tayte stated, “Coach Jasper Smiley, is the person at school that has impacted me the most. He is a great coach and role model.”

In addition to having his plate filled with high school athletics, Tayte still manages to find time for other activities. Tayte stated, “I am a part of the FFA Organization, a member of National Honor Society, and has earned the Letter L.”

After graduating from Laverne High School, Tayte plans on pursing higher education, as well as playing sports in college. Tayte stated, “I will attend Murray State College on a baseball scholarship.”
