Coach: Tyler Bates
20-21 Record: 16-6
It’s an exciting time to be a Mooreland Bearcat. Head coach Tyler Bates has built a foundation of success at Mooreland and the returning players are looking to add to that legacy. For coach Bates, taking his team to the next level is the goal. “We have very high expectations after taking a major step forward last season with a 16-6 record, winning a district championship, advancing to the Saturday of regionals and having our two playoff losses coming to eventual state tournament teams,” said Bates. “This team has size, athleticism, and experience.” One of those players Bates refers to is guard David Cronister (5-11, Sr.). Cronister averaged 15.6 points, 6.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. He is a two-time All-Conference player and the 2021 Buffalo Tournament MVP.
Cooper White (6-2, Sr.) averaged 8.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists from his forward spot. Another forward to watch is Nate Butts (6-3, Sr.) who averaged 4.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. The tandem is tough to stop and work well together with the guards. Grayson Pittman (6-7, So.) is the big man the team will lean on for major production this season. Last year as a freshman he was stellar knocking in 11.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists. Stetson Roper (5-10, So.) and Cody Dowell (6-2, Jr.) are two skilled guards coach Bates will use in various ways this season. Dowell makes his return after missing games last year due to injury. Evan Sampson (5-11, So.) is another skilled player that brings a ton of athleticism to the floor. Carter Sampson (5-8, Jr.) will join the team when football season ends, and Brennan Scarborough (5-9, So.) is a good young talent expecting to see his share of playing time this season.
