Throughout an athlete’s career, there are any number of memorable moments that take place and make an impact on them. Autumn VanZee, who is an athlete at Mooreland High School, has a moment that stands out as her favorite.
“The highlight of my career happened last season,” she recalled. “I won All-Conference and was selected to the All-Tournament team at the Buffalo Invitational basketball tournament.”
Autumn, who is in her senior year, plays fastpitch softball, slowpitch softball, basketball and runs track for the Bearcats. She is also involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America organization. She is also in a computer technology class where they make videos and take photos and enter them into various contests.
There have been a number of influences on her life, but Autumn says that there are a few that have played a really big role.
“I would have to say Grace Lyons is my biggest role model,” VanZee said. “She is a former shortstop at the University of Oklahoma and she has inspired me to play and glorify the Lord while doing so. Another would be my new basketball coach ‘Uribe’. He came to Mooreland last year and he was my math teacher and my assistant basketball coach. This year he took on the head coaching job and I am so grateful for him. He’s making my last season a great one.”
The teammates that she competes alongside in her sports have also made an impact on her and she knows they will play a big role in the team’s success.
“I love working with Olivia Clem,” she said. “She is the only freshman this year and she’s a stud. She already made a huge difference in our team and she will just continue to grow. I think our most underrated player is senior Hannah Eilers. She joined the team this year after quitting her freshman year. She also has made a huge difference in this team. I can’t wait to play the rest of this season with her.”
