Mooreland’s Fayth Howard – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by The Wise Agency AAA

By Derrick Smith

We all have someone that had a great influence on our life as we were growing up. It could have been someone that was part of our everyday life that we knew well or some celebrity or famous athlete that we revered. Fayth Howard says that she is blessed to have a role model that made a big impact on her. “My dad is the biggest influence on my life,” she said. “He taught me to never give up and that you have to work hard and do your best if you want to succeed. I took his advice to heart and that is why I am where I am today. I have put in a lot of hard work and many years of practice. There were also people like my coaches and teammates that pushed me and encouraged me to do my best.”

Howard is a junior at Mooreland High School, where she is a multi-sport athlete. She plays first base for the fast pitch softball team, pitcher and first base on the slowpitch softball team. On the hardwood she plays forward, and she throws the shot put and discus as a member of the track team.

Over the years, Fayth has enjoyed some great memories with her softball teammates both on and off the field. Out of all of them all she says there is one that stands out as her favorite.  “My favorite memory would have to be when we beat Shattuck in the Regional Tournament and advanced to state,” she said. “Another one would be winning back to back district titles.”

Howard has learned from numerous teachers over the years, but she says that her Physical Science teacher would have to be one of her favorites.  “Kayla Godwin would be one of my top teachers,” she said. “Not only does she teach science, she is also the football team’s athletic trainer. She taught me not only in the classroom but on the sidelines. She taught me how to tape wrists and ankles and how to stop muscle cramps.”

Outside of her sports, Fayth is also involved throughout the campus. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America organization, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and she also serves as a manager for the football team.
