Coach: Brandon Nyberg

Seiling boys basketball coach, Brandon Nyberg, is confident in his team’s ability to bounce back after losing key personnel last season, but said there would be a little jockeying for positions. “This year’s team will need to replace a lot of scoring,” he said. “We have several players who will be competing for starting positions and playing time.” Nyberg’s lineup has plenty of height, headed up by Garret Ledford (6-2, Sr.) at forward who averaged 7.0 points and 2.8 rebounds, Hudson Hamar (6-1, So.) at guard and Carson Nelson (6-0, Sr.) also contributing 8.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game last season. Hamar accounted for 3.6 points and 1.5 rebounds. Rounding out the lineup are CJ Smith (5-9, Sr.) at guard, Brock Gore (5-9, So.) at guard, Kaden Manuel (5-10, So.) at forward, Donald Blalock (6-0, Sr.) at forward, Jaron Hunter (5-9, So.) at guard, and Jacob Colvard (5-11, So.) at guard. Manuel is a player that does all the little things which makes winning possible. “Five of our retiring players either started or saw significant playing last year, so that’s a plus,” Nyberg said. “Developing depth will be important, as well as finding an identity on both sides of the ball. 

GIRLS

Coach: Brady Hamar

20-21 Record: 24-2

After a state semi-final last season, Brady Hamar said he’s excited to bring back all five starters this year. “We are still a very young team who gained valuable experience last year,” Hamar said. “We return all five starters off a team that reached the state semifinals last season. We are excited about this season and can’t wait to get started.” Braci Nyberg (5-6, So.) is bringing 15.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game back from last season, and Kenly Gore (5-6, So.) also chipped in for 13.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists last year. This pair of sophomores may be the most formidable pair in their class. Hamar described Nyberg and Gore as “two girls who do absolutely everything for us.” Ahna Whetstone (5-11, So.) averaged 8.5 points and 5.4 rebounds from her forward spot a year ago. Madison Klaver (5-6, Sr.) was good for 5.7 points a game with 3.0 rebounds. Emalee Shook (5-6, Sr.) accounted for 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds as a junior while Isabella Hammons (5-11, So.) pitched in 6.2 points with 3.8 rebounds as a freshman. Teagan Hamar (5-6, Fr.) and Kierstin Briggs (5-9, Fr.) will all be bringing their best games for coach Hamar as well.
