Sharon-Mutual’s Brandi Green – Teacher of the Month Presented by Advanced Real Estate Advisors

Teaching can be a rewarding career. You are able to impact future generations while also helping your students become good people as well. But students are not always excited to learn every subject that is taught but as a teacher, you have to figure out what works best for each student and how you can help them. Brandi Green is a teacher at Sharon-Mutual High School and she has had to work through this issue before.

“By the time I get students in eighth grade, most don’t like math, are intimidated by math or have math anxiety,” she said. “I enjoy helping them overcome these and see that math isn’t so bad. Math is more than solving equations and has a beauty to it. I also enjoy teaching through projects. I try to do as much hands-on as I can to make math more real for my students. What I enjoy most is building relationships. Students often contact me after graduation for various reasons and I’m glad they keep in touch.”

Green teaches Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Algebra 3 to eighth through twelfth graders. This year, she also has Computer Science Discovery.

As a student, Green had a number of outstanding teachers that impacted her life. But she has one that was very influential.

“I had a physics teacher in high school that taught us a lot through projects,” she said. “It was fun, but I was also learning. I had never experienced that much hands-on learning before. I still remember things from that class because of the way he taught it. I tell people that physics was my favorite subject in high school and it has a lot to do with his teaching methods.

When she is not in the classroom, Brandi enjoys spending time with her husband, John, and her sons, Jace and Reece. She also enjoys opening up a good book.

“I love to read,” she stated. “My goal is to read at least one fiction and one nonfiction book per month. I also listen to a lot of true crime podcasts.”
