Shattuck’s Garitt King – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Kevin Cansler State Farm

Shattuck High School senior Garitt King is a multisport athlete, playing both baseball and football for the Shattuck Indians. In baseball, Garitt plays outfield, and in football Garitt plays defensive end. Garitt has been playing baseball for 4 years, and has played football for 9 years.

In regards to what has made Garitt successful thus far during his sporting career, he stated, “Hard work and dedication are what have made me successful.”

Asked what motivates Garitt the most, Garitt did not hesitate to answer. Garitt stated, “What motivates me the most are the teams I play for, as well as my teammates.”

Each time he plays baseball and football, Garitt thinks of how he represents both his school and his community. Garitt stated, “The way you represent your school is the most important thing in sports. You need to make your school look respectable.”

In terms of who is Garitt’s biggest influence, and role model, Garitt looks towards family. Garitt stated, “My biggest influence is my mom. She has always been there for me, and always supported me through everything.”

Most student athletes have a teacher that they enjoyed the most. Garitt recalled, “My favorite teacher was Mr. Kelln. He thought me true life skills, and helped me become the student I am today.”

When it comes to getting satisfaction from beating a rival school, Garitt stated, “The school I enjoy beating the most is Laverne Tigers, because they are our biggest school rival.”

The joy Garitt has for playing baseball and football is quite clear. Garitt stated, “I enjoy playing alongside my team, and with the guys that are in my class.”

In addition to his classes, as well as playing sports for the Shattuck Indians Garitt stated, “I am involved Ag Mech, and have also built stuff for The Oklahoma Youth Expo.”

After he graduates from Shattuck High School, Garitt plans on furthering his education. Garitt explained, “After graduating from high school, I plan on going to vo-tech and obtaining my license in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC).”
