Vici’s Cayce McCracken – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Town of Vici Nursing Home

By Derrick Smith

There is a lot of work that athletes put in to become their best. While physical work is important to someone’s success, it is not the only part. Cayce McCracken says that the people you surround yourself with can also play a role in your growth. “Being your best takes a lot of dedication and time at the field,” McCracken said. “But it is also about having great relationships with your teammates and coaches. Also being a student of the game makes you be a better athlete  You always have to believe in yourself no matter what you’ve gotta be your own best friend. If I could pass some advice to younger athletes, I would want them to know that the time and dedication that you invest are all worth it.”

Cayce is a junior at Vici High School, where she plays centerfield or any outfield position for the softball team. She first started playing softball when she was barely old enough to pick up a bat. She is also a member of the basketball team.

Throughout her career, McCracken has made some great memories with her teammates. Though she has enjoyed them all, she says that there are a couple that stands out as her favorite. “My favorite memory would have to be when I was a freshman and we made it to the State tournament,” she said. “The atmosphere was exciting and it was a really great experience. Also, hitting a pop-up in the Leedey tournament in the semifinals against Canute, which won us the game.”

McCracken has put in a lot of work over the years, but she also attributes her success to those that have made the biggest impact on her. “My parents and all my siblings have been my biggest supporters,” she said. “Also, my coaches have pushed me to my best ability and taught me how to never give up.’

Outside of sports, Cayce is also a member of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America organization, Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society, and the Student Council.
