Vici’s Dylan Moss – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Town of Vici Nursing Home

By Derrick Smith

Athletes have a lot of people that impact their life throughout their career. Coaches, parents, and other athletes are usually high on that list. Dylan Moss has a teacher near the top of his list, but he says that there are others that have influenced him too.

“Mrs. Salisbury is my favorite teacher,” he said. “Mainly because she’s the most chill teacher I have, she is very reliable, and she runs the student council and that’s a big part of my life here. She’s taught me to not procrastinate and just do what needs to be done when it needs to be done. My parents and coach Haley are my role models because they always push me to work as hard as I can and they work with me to do the best I can.”

Moss is a senior at Vici High School. He plays multiple sports for the Indians, including basketball, baseball, and track.

He has competed in sports for about six years and has put in a lot of work to become a better athlete. He says that the work is a key part of being your best.

“Hard work is the most important thing about sports,” he said. “If you work harder than any other team then you have a greater chance to be better.”

Vici boys basketball coach, Billy Haley, says that Moss is a huge asset to the team and an all-around great kid.

“No one on the team plays harder than he does,” stated the coach. “He works hard every day and never complains. He has become a solid scorer for our team. Whether on the court, in the classroom, or just around town, he is always respectful to everyone. A great representative for Vici.”

While he has made a lot of memories over his career, there is one team accomplishment that Moss says he will not soon forget.

“Making it to the state tournament in basketball during my sophomore year would have to be my highlight moment,” he said. “Out of all of the sports I play, that moment was the greatest because all of our work paid off.”

Along with playing sports, Dylan is also a member of the student council, 4-H program, Business Professionals of America, and the National Honor Society.
