Woodward Football Spotlight – Hunter Harrison – Presented by K&S Tire

Woodward senior Hunter Harrison plays key positions on both offense and defense for the Boomer football program. On offense Harrison lines up at left tackle and sets the tone for the offensive line by protecting the edge. On defense Harrison is a defensive end and edge rusher. While Harrison is talented on both sides of the ball, he said that he probably prefers playing defense where he can use his strength and speed to wreak havoc on opposing offensive fronts.

Harrison first started playing football in elementary school and his passion for the game has never wavered. When he’s on the field Harrison brings a grittiness to the Boomers and said his favorite part of the game is getting a big hit on opponents.

As a senior Harrison tries to set a good example for the underclassmen on the team. He knows the qualities required to be a good teammate on and off the field.

“I look for someone that will lead by example no matter if it is on the field, in the classroom, or out in public,” Harrison said. “I also look for someone who pushes you to the max everyday.”

Woodward started off the fall campaign with a tough schedule but Harrison is looking forward to competing every week and working hard and making the most out of every opportunity.

“The season has had a rough start with some really difficult non-district games,” Harrison said. “My main goal for the season is to average at least one sack a game.”

When it comes to inspirational figures Harrison often turns to family for advice.

“I would say my dad inspires,” Harrison said. “He does anything he can to always be there for me and support me no matter what it is.”

In the classroom Harrison always gives maximum effort, too. He said his favorite subject is science and would like to apply his love of the subject in his career.

“I plan on attending college and getting a degree in sports science then become a high school science teacher and football coach,” Harrison said.
