Across the realms of basketball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, Riley Moore, a senior at Woodward High School, personifies the qualities of tenacity, strength and leadership.
Riley’s motivation stems from a deep desire for continuous improvement. “What motivates me the most is that I can be better than what I already am,” she said. Her belief in her potential and the gift she’s been given drives her to work diligently towards maximizing her abilities.
Paige Bueckers and Jesus Christ stand out as significant influences and role models in Riley’s life. She admires Paige’s resilience in overcoming injuries and dominating the game, while also looking up to Jesus for his perfect life and unwavering faith. “He is the perfect representation of who you should want to be and become.”
Among her teachers, Mrs. Terry holds a special place in Riley’s heart. “Mrs. Terry has always been someone I could come talk to whenever, and she always listens,” Riley said.
Success in sports, according to Riley, requires battling through adversity and putting in extra work during off times. These values have been crucial in her journey towards excellence in basketball and softball.
Reflecting on her highlight moments, Riley recalls her standout performance in her junior year fast-pitch softball season. “I played really well in the field and had four home runs that season,” she shared.
Rivalries add a special zest to sports, and for Riley, beating Alva holds a significant place. “The opponent that I enjoy beating the most is Alva,” she said, highlighting the competitive spirit and longstanding rivalry that fuels intense matchups.
In practice, Riley enjoys working against her best friend and teammate, Jocelyn Treece. Their friendly competition pushes each other to excel while fostering camaraderie within the team.
Off the field, Riley is actively involved in various clubs like Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honors Society and Pep Club.
Riley finds inspiration and stays updated on sports through social media, particularly the women’s ESPN account on Instagram. This connection to the sports world keeps her informed and motivated.
Playing for Woodward High School and representing her community holds immense significance for Riley. “I have always dreamed of playing at Woodward High School and having the community watch me play. Knowing that the community supports us makes me want to play well, so that they can experience a good game.”
