Woodward’s Alexis Ibarra – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by AAA- The Sampson Agency LLC

A Woodward native, Alexis Ibarra is a senior who epitomizes commitment, initiative and fortitude in her basketball and soccer endeavors. Her story is not just about her athletic career; it’s also about the values and people that helped mold her into the person she is today.

Reflecting on her biggest role model, Alexis shared, “My mom has been my biggest role model, she has woken up for the past 18 years of her life to take care of me and always help me with anything I need help with.” This profound admiration for her mother speaks volumes about Alexis’s appreciation for hard work and sacrifice.

Coach Arive has played a pivotal role in Alexis’s life, instilling essential life lessons. “Coach Arive has made a huge impact on my life because he has taught me to keep pushing myself and never give up on the small things. He has shown me how to become a better person and help those who struggle like me.”

Alexis attributes her success in sports to dedication, discipline and leadership. “Dedication and discipline have helped me become successful in all my sports. Being a team leader as well has shown me how we can grow as a team and have success throughout our games.”

One of Alexis’s proudest moments was being part of the soccer team that became State Runners-Up last year, marking a historic achievement for her team and school. “Being State Runners-Up for soccer last year, making history,” Alexis said.

Despite her competitive spirit on the field, Alexis finds a different kind of challenge in facing her little sister in sports. “My little sister has always been a tough opponent to beat, but when it comes to 1v1, I forget she is my sister.”

Within her teams, Alexis values competitiveness and hard work. She mentions Ava Miller as a teammate she enjoys working with due to her dedication and competitive spirit, making practices more challenging and productive. Alexis also acknowledges the often-overlooked contributions of team managers. “I think that our managers do not get enough credit for what they do. They make sure we have everything, and they are there regardless of what is going on.”

Alexis Ibarra’s journey is a testament to the values of hard work, mentorship, teamwork and leadership, all of which contribute to her success on and off the field.
