Woodward’s Eduardo Corona- Athlete Spotlight – Presented by The Wise Agency AAA

By Derrick Smith

Role models can play a large role in most people’s lives, and high school student-athletes are no different. Whether they look up to someone that plays the same sport as they do or  just a famous athlete, they can be a big influence. Eduardo Corona says that though pro-athletes are good to look up to, he has a few people that he is close to that have helped shape him into the person he is today.
“My brothers are my biggest role models,” he stated. “I look up to them for a lot of different reasons. They never give up, they are always confident in their decisions, and they love what they do. And that is what I have learned from them. Also, my teammate, Jose Hernandez is someone that I battle with a lot in practice. We push and motivate each other and always try to one-up each other. I think that it really helps both of us be better athletes.”

Eduardo plays soccer and runs cross country for the Woodward Boomers. He has had a good career so far and says that he attributes that to him putting in the time and continually working on his game.

“There has been a lot for me to get where I am,” he said. “It has taken a lot of grit, pride, and love for what I do. Without those three things, it would be difficult to be successful. I also owe a lot to my family because they have always had my back and they always push me to strive for more.”

Throughout his time of playing sports, Corona has played a lot of games and experienced some memorable moments. But out of them all, there is one that stands out as his favorite.

“I think the highlight of my career so far would have to be when I scored my first goal,” he recalled. “The shot was outside of the eighteen. When I got the ball and took the shot, it went over the keeper and right into the back left corner of the goal.”

Along with his sports, Eduardo, who is a junior, is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Pep Club.
