Woodward’s Evan Dunn – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by K&S Tire

There is someone in each of our lives that we look up to for a variety of reasons. It could be an athlete that we want to play like or a celebrity that we admire. But for Evan Dunn, the person he looks up to the most is not an athlete or a celebrity, instead, it is someone who is a little closer to home.

“My biggest influence would probably be my grandma,” he said. “I spent a lot of time around her when I was growing up and I worked around her house.”

Evan attends Woodward High School, where he is a junior. He runs cross country and also plays soccer. This is his first season to run cross country, but his fifth year to be on the soccer team. He currently plays goalie on the soccer team, but before that, he was a field player.

It has taken a lot for Dunn to become the athlete and person that he is today, and for him, it takes more than just physical work. “It has taken a lot of work and practice in order to be successful,” he said. “Keeping a positive mindset has also been key in my development.”

He says that while he has sat through many lessons taught by a number of teachers, there is one teacher that made a difference in his life and taught him more than just what was in the lessons.

“Mrs. Stewart was my eighth-grade teacher,” she said. “She was super kind and she taught me how to deal with people. That is something that I will carry with me after high school.”

He has had some great moments during his athletic career, but Dunn says that there is one moment in particular that he would say is his favorite.

“We were playing against Weatherford in the soccer playoffs,” he recalled. “We beat them in extra time to advance. It was a great win and an awesome experience.”

Away from sports, Evan is also a member of the National Honor Society.
