Jessalynn Russell is in her first year of teaching at Woodward Public Schools.
The opportunity to teach in Woodward was a special one for Russell, who teaches third grade at Highland Park Elementary.
“I attended Woodward Public Schools my entire life, and I am so glad that I have gotten to come back as an educator,” she said.
Responsibility and organizational skills are her top priorities when it comes to teaching students.
“The most important practical skill I feel that I’ve taught my students this year is a sense of responsibility and organizational skills,” Russell said. “I feel that my students have matured greatly this year by being responsible for their education and learning how to be organized. It has been amazing seeing their growth this year.”
The importance of teachers helped guide Russell to her patch in education.
“I had so many great teachers that inspired me to become a teacher,” she said. “I truly believe that public education is essential to a functioning society and teachers are so incredibly important to shaping the future of our country. It is such a rewarding profession and I love coming into work every day.”
Outside of the classroom, Russell enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising and attending sporting events.
