Northwest Oklahoma Osteopathic Foundation’s Dr. Samantha Moery

Dr. Samantha Moery is a member of the Board of Directors with the Northwest Oklahoma Osteopathic Foundation, and she currently serves as President of the Northwest District Osteopathic Society. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Foundation. The most rewarding aspect is the ability to serve with others to promote and support the osteopathic profession. The Foundation works alongside the Northwest District Osteopathic society to provide informative programs for area physicians. The Foundation provides support for community services through our grant program and to students interested in healthcare via a scholarship program. We also provide support to the Enid Community Clinic and several of us volunteer our time there as well,” said Dr. Moery. “I am currently serving as President of the Northwest District Osteopathic Society. The society offers informative programs at no cost for area physicians. Anita [Luetkemeyer, Executive Director] is instrumental in securing speakers and venues for our society meetings. Our meetings give us the opportunity to learn something new and also visit with our colleagues that we wouldn’t normally get to see on a daily basis. We also welcome rotating medical students to these meetings to give them a better understanding of the camaraderie NW Oklahoma has to offer.”

During her time serving the community, Dr. Moery has enjoyed the opportunity to have college students rotate through her practice over the years. “I have had OSU medical students rotate with me many times. I practice family medicine both in the hospital and clinic, and feel I am able to show students a wide variety of patients. The COVID-19 pandemic brought a halt to students in our office, but hopefully I’ll be able to have students rotate again soon,” said Dr. Moery.

Aside from her practice, Dr. Moery also serves the Hennessey community through her involvement with the Hennessey Educational Foundation. “I serve as Secretary with the Hennessey Educational School Foundation. We are also band, softball, and basketball boosters. It’s not unusual to find us hosting a meal or working a concession stand,” said Dr. Moery.

Husband Monty and their five children, Chloe, Peyton, Aidan, Izzy and Maddi keep everyone busy with their activities. “They keep us busy with all sorts of activities – the girls are busy with softball and the boys with band. We are members at First Christian Church in Hennessey and very active with the youth group,” said Dr. Moery. “We have a big, busy family so there’s rarely a dull moment. Family time is very important. In our free time we enjoy hanging out on the back porch and going over to Lake Carl Blackwell. We are music lovers so hopefully as the pandemic settles, we can head out to more concerts.”

Dr. Moery offers some sound advice to anyone entering or wanting to enter Med-School. “My biggest piece of advice to those entering medical school (or any aspect of healthcare) is to remember – “it’s a marathon, not a sprint.” It’s been a difficult time with the pandemic for healthcare workers, but it’s a great profession and more of a calling than anything else – so it’s important for us to keep encouraging those coming along. Especially for local students, I encourage them to come home to practice as certainly there is a need and you couldn’t ask for better people to take care of than those of Northwest Oklahoma.
