Enid’s Landon Jung – Cross Country Spotlight – Presented by Enid Axe

Landon Jung wanted to reach a big goal of his this year as a sophomore at Enid High School. Jung posted a sub-18-minute time in a 5K run with a 17:56 for the Plainsmen and head coach Justin DeClerck.

“I wanted to heal from my injury and run a sub-17 this year,” Jung said. “I feel as if my mindset and my approach to meets have improved the most since last year. I would definitely say my strengths are my kick and my overall consistency during a race.”

“Landon is one of our highly-talented sophomores and has been a top four runner on our varsity team for the last two seasons,” DeClerck said. “He was all-conference at the Oklahoma Big 7 Conference XC meet in 2022 as a freshman. Landon is a very competitive athlete, not just on the XC course but also on the track and on the golf course, he brings a mindset of improving every day to practice and is a true asset to his respective teams.”

Jung’s proudest moment so far in the early stages of his career came as a freshman.

“My most memorable moment would be running sub-19 for the first time at the OSU Jamboree last year,” he said.

DeClerck has made a big impact on Jung.

“My biggest influence would be my coach, Justin DeClerck. He’s really pushed me to get faster these last two years, and I can’t thank him enough for that,” Jung said.

Jung says he plans on attending college following high school, whether it be for a sport or for academics.
