Hennessey’s Jay Jech – NWOK area athlete spotlight – presented by integris hennessey medical clinic

By Ember McElrath

The highlight of many student athletes’ careers are something that they did as an individual; a basket or a touchdown. But not for Jay Jech, he is all about his team.

“The highlight of my career was in my senior year of football; we broke a losing streak to our rival, Chisholm, in a win over them 15-14,” said Jay.

Jay is a senior at Hennessey High School and being involved is something he loves to do. He has played football for two years in the positions of quarterback and wide receiver as well as playing baseball for all four years of high school as a basemen. Not only is he involved in sports he is also an active member in the National Honor Society as well as FFA.

For Jay he has had two great men that have been excellent role models and his biggest influences thus far in his life and athletic career.

“My football Coach Hix taught me many things and always made the sport about setting us up for success in life; he brought back the love for football and made it enjoyable,” said Jay.

His father is someone he has always looked up to and someone who he can always count on to set a good example.

“My father has been the biggest influencer in my life; growing up I always looked up to him and wanted to be just like him. My father is a Trooper for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and for as long as I can remember that’s all I have ever wanted to do. He has taught me that the world needs good people in it to outway the bad and that’s what he has always raised me to do,” Jay said.

In school Jay has had several wonderful teachers, but one of his favorite teachers has to be his math teacher Mrs Guinn.

“She has always taught us to be happy and live life to the fullest,” Jay said.
