Kingfisher Yellowjackets Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by K&S Tire

GIRLS

Coach: Taylor Young

21-22 Record: 24-6

After making multiple trips in a row to the area tournament, the Lady Yellowjackets broke through and made it to the state tournament last season. They are coming into this season ready to make another trip to the big house and head coach Taylor Young likes the makeup of the team and think they can do it. “We return three starters off of last year’s team,” Young said. “We also bring in a good core of freshman and sophomores that will play bigger roles this upcoming season.” Leading the team at point guard will be Peyton Walker (5-6, Jr.). Peyton has a high basketball IQ along with the ability to see the floor, knock down shots, and lock down the other team’s best players night in and night out. She will be a key player in Kingfisher’s success this season. Sharpshooter Addy Matthews (5-11, Jr.) is back to be an offensive weapon. Last season, she shot 45% from the field. Paired with her length and size, she can alter shots and rebound the ball at a high level.

Emily Myers (5-10, Sr.) is a tough hard-nosed player who is often the best athlete on the floor any given night. Her defensive pressure and physicality play a key role for her team. A newer face on the team is Raegan Snider (6-0, So.). As an incoming sophomore, Snider is prime for a breakout year. Her athleticism and her size and willingness to compete sets her apart. She can post up, knock down mid-range jumpers, and stretch the floor to the three-point line. Kadyn Daugherty (6-0, So.) and Mya Dewberry (5-7, Sr.) are both outstanding athletes and teammates and they will be called on to play bigger roles this season. Some Lady Yellowjackets that will look to be impact players this season are Avery Davis (5-9, Sr.), Chloe Blair (5-7, Jr.), Kamia Hamilton (5-9, Jr.), Talor Mecklenburg (5-7, So.). Other members of the team are Addison Wilson (5-5, So.), Ja’a Rex (5-6, Fr.), Gracie Rowan (5-10, Fr.), Jancee Matthews (5-10, Fr.), Abbie Myers (5-9, Fr.), Elizabeth Pickle (5-8, Fr.), and Scout Snodgrass (5-6, Fr.). Mallory Kusik will be the team’s assistant coach this season.
