OBA’s Connor Colby – Coast Guard’s “Always ready” athlete spotlight

Connor Colby is an 18 year old senior centerfielder for the Oklahoma Bible Academy Trojans, and he said he’s loved the game ever since he can remember.

“I’ve been playing since I was five,” Colby said. “Initially I enjoyed playing it because it was fun, and I was competitive. But as I got older, the people I got to spend time with while participating became more of a factor as to why I play, and when I look at it now, many of the times I enjoyed regarding the sport involved a sense of community I experienced with my teammates.”

Just as his love for the game has evolved over time, Colby’s sense of duty to his younger teammates has evolved as well.

“I definitely see the responsibility that exists within the role of being a senior, and it inspires me to do well because I know that the young guys are looking for what is considered acceptable and praiseworthy,” he said. “If I can show them what I believe that to be, then the team can build on it and become a group of guys with a great sense of how to play the game.

“Some specific things I do to make that possible is that I do my best to have a positive attitude about the game,” he continued. “No matter the situation, there’s no reason to get down because in the end, we’re all getting an opportunity to play a great game and represent something greater. I also do my best to make sure everyone feels like they’re a part of the team. Because sometimes certain roles can seem like they have less of an impact, but in reality everyone is absolutely necessary.”

In his free time, Colby said he enjoys working out, hanging out with his friends, playing video games, and drawing.
