Waukomis’ Jasper Carter – Athlete Spotlight – presented by stevens ford

By Jay Hoberecht

Jasper Carter is a senior at Waukomis High School and is looking to make the most of his senior season. The 5-foot-11 guard is leading a Waukomis team that looks to go deep in the Class A playoffs.

Carter has a “little, big brother,” Hunter, who is a freshman playing on the varsity basketball team. Jasper started playing when he was little on the drive way with his dad. In the second grade, he became part of HES (Help Elevate Sportsmanship) travel team. In seventh grade while playing summer ball, Jasper realized he loved the game. He now wants to play at the next level.

Waukomis head basketball coach, Allen Hicks, in his third year leading the Chiefs, talks about Carter being passionate about the game. Hicks called Carter a “good kid – quiet, yet, a good leader.” Hicks likes Carter’s versatile play with good shooting range and how he can surprise you with his ability to rebound. He sees the floor well, creates opportunities for others and can defend. Carter makes the Chiefs go!

Carter possibly wants to go into chiropractic medicine and thinks it is very interesting to treat the body naturally. He goes regularly to a chiropractor and that got him interested in the profession.

I asked Carter what he would tell young basketball players that are beginning the journey of playing the game. “Work hard” was his first response. Then, he added, “Stay committed and get in the gym and practice.” He  also talked about using off time to get better.

Jasper Carter is a committed young man that wants to make the Waukomis Chiefs the best version of themselves they can be. With seven of eight players returning this season, look for the Chiefs to win a tournament and go deep in the Class A playoffs.
