Canton’s Brandon Day – athlete spotlight presented by Northwest Technology Center

Canton junior Brandon Day is a football and track star at school and a future auto technician thanks to his enrollment at Northwest Tech.

“I fell in love with football my sophomore year when I really started getting some playing time,” Day said. “I also got past that wall of being scared to get hit. I also compete in the 100- and 200-meter sprints, as well as the 400- and 800-meter relays. We haven’t had any meets yet, but I’m looking forward to this season as I feel I’ve had a lot of personal growth with my speed and getting a good start off the line.”

As for his future plans, Day said he plans to attend Oklahoma State, join the ROTC, and then join the Army as an officer.

“I look forward to seeing myself travel through the ranks,” he said. “But I’m studying auto tech at NW Tech because I feel like it’s preparing me for life. It’s something I can fall back on if whatever career path I choose doesn’t work out for me. One of the teachers I love is Mr. Watson,” he continued. “He is an amazing teacher because he is very patient, and he does a very good job of making sure everyone knows the material.”

Even though Day isn’t in his final year of high school, he recognizes that being a leader is a role he’s in daily, and he wants to make sure he is a good role model for the younger students.

“I love being a role model and try as hard as I can to not stick my head up too high,” he said. “I want to make the younger athletes feel welcome. I think one of the most important things and one of the hardest things to remember is that I was in that position at one time.”
