Covington-Douglas’s Christian Tarango – Oklahoma FFA spotlight presented by farm credit of enid

With so many options for a student to choose from, it’s no wonder the FFA is growing in numbers. For Christian Tarango of Covington-Douglas High School, competing is just one of the reasons FFA was appealing to him.

“I enjoy competing in speech competitions and like having the opportunity to meet new friends through different camps. I do not show any animals. I am active in football, basketball, baseball, track, cross country, FCCLA, student council treasurer, and FFA president,” said Tarango.

Tarango said he’s enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and create bonds with others.

“FFA has given me the opportunity to build great bonds with friends from all over the state that I will need for the rest of my life, and I would encourage them to be active in FFA and to go as many leadership opportunities as they can. My biggest influence is Jose Mier. Jose happens to be my cousin and graduated in 2012. He has always held a high standard for me growing up and he strongly encouraged me to be in FFA. He has been very successful in life. He doesn’t know it, but I truly look up to him. He has given me many opportunities to do great things and I am forever thankful to him. I would say he is my greatest influence,” said Tarango.

Now a senior, Tarango plans to attend Oklahoma State University where he will pursue a degree and eventually work towards his master’s in business marketing.

Tarango is preparing for baseball season where he plays in the outfield for the Wildcats.

“I love baseball because it just tends to be a stress reliever from the rest of the world. Being in centerfield the ball won’t always be hit to you, but you have to be on your toes every pitch. It is a very patient game and it teaches you how to be patient in life. I love baseball because you don’t have to be the best athlete to be great. Anyone can hit the ball and make plays in the field. It is just a matter of how much work you put into the game,” said Tarango.
